The UnBook UnTour promoting the release of Scott Stratten’s new book will be stopping in Milwaukee next Thursday, November 18th. While I’m thrilled to say I have an Unsponsor Top Level ticket (now sold out) I am also sad to say I will be out of town on business and unable to use the ticket. This is where you come in.
How to win my ticket
- Double check all the details on the Scott Stratten UnTour UnParty Milwaukee page and make sure you can attend the event.
- Leave a comment on this post with your favorite piece of UnMarketing advice from Scott. A brief explanation of your reason why it’s your favorite will help you when I judge the entries.
- After you leave your comment click on the Newsletter Sign-up above and signup for my email newsletter. Try and use the same email associated with your comment. While I have other ways to match the two up you’ll be making my life a little easier. Thanks in advance for that.
That’s all there is to it. Enter before 5pm Central time on Tuesday November 16th to be considered. I’ll let the winner know via email before I hit the hay on Tuesday night. I will also post the winner here so you will know you have not won and will still have time to buy a ticket. It’s going to be a great event and I’m sad I won’t be able to attend.

I like Scott’s advice to add your own comments to a RT at the beginning, instead of the end. Why? Because placing it at the beginning makes it much more explicit that the comment is YOUR opinion, not that of the original tweet writer. I’ve done it both ways. But I’ve never heard this advice shared before with this much clarity. It’s just common sense. Now I know!

My favorite example I’ve heard Scott give was how Twitter works like a bank; you can’t just open an account and expect to withdraw a ton of money. You build up your social currency just like you build up currency in the bank…and you only get to take out what you put into it.
P.S. I don’t need the ticket, Jim. I just wanted to share. Great post!

Jim, I’d love to have the ticket so here’s my entry.
My favorite example of UnMarketing Advice came from Scott’s presentation on “Keep Going Until We Stop”: Sometimes you just have to stop in order to keep on going (paraphrased). It’s my favorite because I could so relate to the overall message of the presentation. For me this presentation, and the way Scott delivered it just touched me on a deeply personal level because I know I am a workaholic. My wife worries sometimes with how hard I throw myself into projects.
I know I keep pushing myself harder and harder and saying if I can just keep going… While I have been pushing myself rather hard of late, because of Scott’s presentation, the emotion, the heartfelt nature of it and the overall connection I felt with Scott through themessage I backed off in time that I think my doctor didn’t have to have the talk with me that Scott’s doctor had with him.

Low price or free trial does not overcome the trust gap! You need to build relationships long before cost ever becomes an issue. Build trust by demonstrating your expertise maybe using a blog or newsletter. Each person you EVER meet needs an interaction before a price.

Paul, Jeff, Chuck (and even Russ who does not need a ticket),
I truly wish I had four tickets to give away. I’ve sat here for about 20 minutes and I have finally made a decision.
First, however, I’ll share my favorite piece of Scott Stratten advice. From his Ungeeked Milwaukee presentation. With a great deal of passion he delivered the phase “It’s just talking people.” That phase forever changed the way I look at Twitter and all social media for that matter.
So, the winner is Jeff (Fossil Designs). Again, all fantastic entries and thanks for playing. If you didn’t win this one, not to worry I already have another one planned with tickets to a speaking event I have coming up in January.
Thanks again,
Jim
