The blank page

December 16, 2011 By Jim Raffel

I write. A lot. I don’t write everyday like I did a year ago, but I still write a lot.

Some days – actually many days – I stare at a blank page on my screen for several minutes before I start writing.

It’s not because of a lack of topics; it’s actually a desire to share what’s most meaningful.

Sometimes – okay, a lot of times – over the last several months, it’s been difficult because I’m not even thinking about tomorrow’s blog post until late in the evening.

That’s not an ideal condition for writing. There’s a reason the page has been blank and I’ve been partially absent.

Over at ColorMetrix, a great deal of what we do is pure research and development work. We’ve been bringing one project to a true launch phase and searching for a breakthrough on another.

In the last week, we achieved both: An initial launch order on one front and a breakthrough on the other.

These things don’t just happen. You work your ass off and make them happen. You never quit – even when you most want to. Success is the only option.

Burn the bridges and burn the boats, because forward progress is the only way to success.

This has not been the easiest year of my life, but it’s been the most fun.

And the blank pages? They are my refuge.

Thank you for reading what the blank pages became. Thank you for sharing the once blank pages that touch you with others.
