Jim and I knew that, no matter what time we picked for our weekly #shehechat, we would sometimes have conflicts. Jim travels frequently and we both have much going on in our professional and personal lives.
A couple of weeks ago, we realized we had both signed up to attend an event on a Thursday evening. (Our #shehechat starts at 8 p.m. CST on Thursdays.) The event was at Milwaukee’s downtown social media hot spot AJ Bombers and it seemed natural to ask owner Joe Sorge if we could just hold the chat there at the end of the event. He agreed. He was even nice enough to secure a booth for us during the chat.
More often that not, Jim and I meet up in person to conduct #shehechat because we’ve found we can do a better job that way. That part wasn’t new to us. However, the live participation we received from those at AJ Bombers that night was new.
Many people stopped by our booth to talk to us about that night’s topics or just #shehechat in general. It was interesting to find out that people who had not participated in the chat before knew about it and had even followed along on occasion. Surprisingly, Jim and I were able to engage in these in-person discussions while still keeping up with the live chat.
When we realized National Social Media Day was today and it fell on a Thursday, it seemed obvious that we should do another on-site #shehechat. It was also obvious that we would approach Joe first about letting us hold our chat at AJ Bombers again. Joe graciously agreed. We’ve given the event a Twitter hashtag of #MKEsmday.
We’re excited to deliver another in-person #shehechat and hope you can stop by AJ Bombers between 7 and 9 p.m. tonight. If you do, please find Jim and me and let us know what you think of the chat. We are always looking for suggestions! If you can’t make it in person, remember you can participate by following the #shehechat hashtag on Twitter at 8 p.m. CST.
Event details and RSVP are available on Twitter, Facebook and Mashable. Our topics for tonight are listed below.
Topic #1: Do you consider Linkedin a true social network or just an online resume?
Topic #2: How do you feel about Twitter #FollowFriday?
Topic #3: How do you feel about overuse of apps on Facebook by your friends?
