My favorite Linkedin tip

December 2, 2010 By Jim Raffel

Image of Linkedin HeadlineTake a look at my “headline” which is the text below my name in the image above.

Many folks I know just put their title in that space. I think that’s a mistake. It’s probably the most read part of your profile. Heck, they call it a headline because like a newspaper headline your goal with this text is to draw in interested parties.

image of Linkedin headline editorAt one point I’m fairly sure Linkedin called this field “Title” or sometime along those lines which is why yours may in fact be your title. As you can see they now call it Professional Headline. Why not go back and edit yours to draw in those types of individuals you would be interested in working with. Linkedin is after all a professional network.

That’s my favorite Linkedin tip, what’s yours?

This is definitely a solid tip for anyone using LinkedIn. It’s something I have tried to do with my own profile, but now, after seeing yours, I think I’m going to go back to the old drawing board and give mine a rethink.

Think of it as copywriting. Get a creative to help you if you feel stuck. Ask your boss what he/she thinks you do. Ask your clients what they think you do. Or just write the headline of the Jeff you aspire to be. 🙂
