We’ve all been in those conversations when someone pipes up with “we need to …”
– fix blah blah.
– change blah blah.
Ever notice how it’s often the same person?
Ever notice how that person does a whole lot of talking about what needs to be changed or be fixed but is seldom doing anything to make those changes and fixes happen?
Well, that’s what I call “need to-itus” and it’s a disease we need to eradicate.
Instead of talking about what needs to be done, how about just doing it?

I’m always one that speaks up about the best way to accomplish a goal when presented with requests. The “why” instead of the “what” in a request is more important in my specific role. So I tend to delve deeper and that often that includes changing things on a project unrelated to the request to better accomplish the goal.
So, my question is, is someone that adds to the need to do list but then completes it part of the solution or the problem if the request takes longer to complete? They could just do what is asked of them instead of adding to the list. Interesting thought.
If you need reference material just look at our emails from this week ๐

heh, funny that both you and Shelby somehow construed this post to be about you. If anything it’s a serious case of projection. Thanks for reminding me that folks don’t always know that these posts are as much about self-observation as they are about observation.
To answer your more direct question – I actually think the 20 back and forth emails these where were “doing.” You and Shelby understood what I really wanted and ran with the idea. That is doing.
Looking forward to the ColorMetrix site updates!

That’s funny. I didn’t think it was about me but I could definitely relate it to our emails this week. I think getting to the core needs are important. It opens the door to more possibility instead of being constrained to the ‘do this, this way’ sort of mentality. Or being bogged down by ‘add this, add that’ without thought and research…and sometime actual need ๐
On a side note, being able to write in a manner that allows any reader to project themselves onto your message is a great skill to have sir.
