Since the summer of 2009, I’ve spent a fair amount of time tinkering with this site. What drives me is a goal to get it right and then keep it that way once I figure out my true purpose here. This week marked the beginning of a publishing schedule I can really wrap my head around. What follows is the story of how I got here (with your help of course).
The three transformative events
Event 1: In January, working with my editor Shelby, we made a decision to scale back to three blogs posts a week here, roughly on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Event 2: At the end of March, I became overwhelmed with work and life and decided to take a hiatus from publishing here for awhile.
Event 3: In early May shortly after resuming publishing here, I attended SOBCon in Chicago and experienced a weekend-long transformative understanding of not only my higher purpose in life but also my position and lack of an accurate positioning statement.
Each event above includes a link to earlier blog posts that explain how that event caused a transformation in this blog.
Topics and such you can expect here going forward
Going forward, I’ll write about two broad topic categories. On “Business Monday” I will cover issues associated with running a small business. “Content Creation Wednesday” will focus on the the various ways content can and should be created to grow your business online.
On Fridays, I’ll either not write or write about something I consider timely and relevant to you. On Fridays, I’ll announce changes like this, promote events like WordCamp Milwaukee, and write other general or fun posts. What I won’t do is write about htc EVO batteries ever again (I promised Phil this).
Is change really scary?
You might consider change scary. I guess there are certain kinds of change I consider scary, but for the most part I embrace and love change. It’s possible I like change too much and am too willing to turn on a dime and scrap months or even years of work. I just know this site with my name on it has lost the kind of focus I want it to have. It’s my sincere hope this new format will help me find my way back to the topics you value most.
